The Egyptian Society of Rheumatic diseases (ESRd), formerly known as The Egyptian Society for Joint diseases and arthritis, is a civil society that aims to support the Egyptian Rheumatologists as the primary goal. With more than 1000 members, ESRd is the largest rheumatology society in Egypt, Africa and the Middle East.
ESRd was first founded in 1977, and since then several professors successively lead the society with each of them was keen to adopt a vision aimed at building a strong entity that can undertake continuous development and upgrading the level of rheumatology field and provide the available and desired facilities that serve doctors throughout the republic. The society is currently chaired by one the distinguished rheumatology professors who had large influence on the Rheumatology community in Egypt and the region Prof. Ayman EL-Garf.
The Society hosts “The Egyptian Rheumatologist” the international peer-reviewed journal published by Elsevier. The journal is indexed in well-known citation indices including Web of science and Scopus, its’ articles are downloaded by readers across the globe with 23,374 downloads in the USA alone over the past 5 years.
For more than 40 years, ESRd regularly holds the annual rheumatology scientific meeting that became the largest gathering of rheumatologists from Egypt and the region with more than 500 Rheumatology attendees from Egypt and several Arab countries (e.g., Saudi Arabia and UAE, Sudan … etc.). In 2018, ESRd celebrated its 40th annual conference in the historical city of glamour and charm, Luxor city. This annual conference that is held over 4 days, offers valuable scientific knowledge, interactions and exchange of clinical experience, ideas and knowledge among distinguished KOLs and promising younger Rheumatologists.
